The Hypocrisy of the Media: U.S Capitol Seizure Example

On January the 6th, 2021Trump supporters were given an exceptional opportunity to enter the U.S Capitol Building. Wearing MAGA hats, waving confederation flags, the protesters confronted surprisingly unarmed security, smashed the offices, and even managed to pose with the symbols of U.S democracy.

Who are Trump Supporters?

QAnon conspiracy theory fans, right-wing groups, and individuals, who believe that Mr. Trump won the 2020 presidential race, were protesting yesterday in Washington D.C. Occasional Georgia flags, confederation flags, QAnin banners — the symbols that united Trump supporters.

Demographically and socially, the avatar of а Trump supporter can be shown like that:

Age: 20–60
Race: caucasian
Education: middle school
Political views: right-wing

Summing it up, it turns out that the average Trump supporter is a white man (most likely) or a woman without completed high education with right-wing views who comes from a central part of the country. The question is how “post Trump” U.S democracy let a bunch of rednecks break into the Capitol without any serious resistance attempt and why this act was so necessary for the country where the Senate is not a sole actor in preserving the whole ruling system? The U.S political body is not a Russian one, where taking over one key governmental building leads to a revolution.

Why Act to Seizure the Capitol?

Capturing the main building of the country means the determination of a group to seize power in the country. Also, it means that the group represents the majority. Knowing that the Senate is not the sole actor of the democratic subpoena, it’s not possible in the U.S to gain authority invading one building. Anyways, the capturers managed to threaten the Senate and the country, showing off and making everyone believe that it’s possible to attack the state buildings.

Was it a threat display of a future attack from the radicalized supporters or an impulsive move of a mass? Why security didn’t stop the gang from attacking the people in the building? These are the questions to answer for the leaders of the United States.

#BLM and Capitol Protests

US media compare yesterday’s Capitol seizure and the BLM protest that happened in the summer of 2020. The picture of armed security forces, standing in front of the Capitol while BLM protests, is linked to the photo of Trump supporters, easily entering the building the same building yesterday. This montage produced a massive effect on the public.

The majority of well-known media in the US is capitalistic and backed up by Democrats, we can not fail to mention this. It means that the highlighting of the events happening in the world is already determined by the media. In a context of blocking and censoring Trump tweets and posts by the platforms, who secretly sell personal info of the users, the question immediately arises:

Why social media censured the violent words of Trump in digital space and the police did not prevent the violent actions of his supporters in practice? Why the police kill black people in the streets, and black people’s agendas are being promoted online only?

Is it the hypocrisy of the propagandistic agenda or the intended media focus change?
